Every head torch works for the first hour. It's hour three that sorts them out — the beam fading to a brown smudge while you're still twenty minutes from camp, or the moment you realise you left it on charge at home and it's sitting in the kitchen, full.

Two rechargeable lithium cells come with the torch. Run one down, swap it for the other, keep going. When they're both flat you can charge them off the wall at home or off the ute on the drive out, because both adapters are in the box. The wall plug is Australian, so there's no travel adapter to hunt for.
The batteries sit in a compartment at the back of your head, not on your forehead. That's the difference between a head torch you forget you're wearing and one that presses a groove into your skull by hour two. The weight is split front and back instead of hanging off the front.
The lamp head twists. Push it forward and the beam narrows into a tight spot that reaches down the track; pull it back and it opens into a wide flood that lights up the ground in front of you and everything either side. One torch for seeing far and for seeing your hands.
The whole head tilts through ninety degrees on its yoke, so you can drop the beam onto the trailer coupling, the tackle tray or the tent peg without craning your neck down at it.
Three modes on one side button — high, low, and a strobe if you need to be seen. The button is a raised rubber pad you can find and press with gloves on, in the dark, without taking the torch off.
The lamp head is aluminium alloy, so it survives living in a ute tray or the bottom of a tacklebox.
