Here's How It Works

The toe box is fully closed and capped in rubber. It wraps up and over the front of the sandal, so when your foot finds a rock, a boat cleat or a tent peg in the dark, the rubber takes it and your toes never know. That single piece of construction is the difference between an open sandal and something you can actually walk a track in.

Everything behind that toe cap is built to let the heat out. Open honeycomb mesh fills the forefoot and instep, shaped cut-outs run through the leather side panels, and the heel is left open. Air moves through the whole upper instead of pooling in it — and since sweat plus friction is what makes a blister in the first place, taking the sweat out takes the blister with it.

Underneath is a proper rubber outsole, not a flat beach sole. Square lugs run the perimeter, oval lugs sit through the middle, and the toe carries wave siping. That is the difference between grip on a wet boat ramp and going down on one.

The fit is held by two systems working together. An elastic cord runs across the forefoot on barrel toggles — set the tension once and your foot stops sliding forward on descents. A padded ankle strap closes with hook-and-loop over a plastic slider, so you can get in and out one-handed at the ute, and loosen it off at three in the afternoon when your feet have swollen in the heat.

The whole perimeter is finished with a contrast whipstitch running over the rubber rand. You can see how it is put together, which is more than most sandals at this end of the market will show you.
